RODRIGO GRILLO GRILLASCA

Rodrigo Grillo Grillasca es compositor, tecladista, arreglista y productor originario de la Ciudad de México. Su trabajo musical abarca desde la composición para cine, teatro, ensambles de jazz y música contemporánea, hasta la exploración de nuevos formatos cortos para artes visuales, así como tokens no fungibles (NFT) en blockchains.

Tras obtener el título de Psicología por la Universidad de las Américas (CDMX, 2008), cursó el Bachelor of Arts in Music en el City College de Nueva York (2013). Allí estudió composición con David Del Tredici; armonía y piano con Kevin Hays; y dirección coral y arreglo con Ira Spaulding.

En el ámbito teatral, ha colaborado con el Colectivo Macramé, dirigido por Mariana Gándara, creando música electroacústica para puestas en escena. En el cine, ha trabajado con directores como Jonás Cuarón, Rodrigo Imaz y Juan Romo. En 2014 formó parte del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) con el cortometraje Domingo, dirigido por Diego Cataño Elizondo, escrito por Mateo García Elizondo y producido por Jonás Cuarón.

En Nueva York colaboró con Gala Lutteroth musicalizando cortometrajes documentales, y trabajó en Mayimba Music Inc., donde se desempeñó como arreglista y coordinador de eventos.

En 2011 fundó La Supercosa, una orquesta de cámara de música contemporánea que explora la relación entre objetos cotidianos e instrumentos orquestales. Se presentó como pianista y director del ensamble en espacios culturales como el Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), el Museo Universitario del Chopo y la Facultad de Química de la UNAM, proponiendo experiencias escénicas inmersivas y experimentales.

En 2018 compuso el himno oficial del equipo de béisbol Venados de Mazatlán, utilizado para la inauguración del estadio Teodoro Mariscal y durante las temporadas 2018 y 2019.

Fue miembro fundador de Vórtice Ensamble, dirigido por Felipe Pérez Santiago, con quienes interpretó diversos programas en foros y festivales nacionales, y grabó teclados y pianos para proyectos como MXTX de Golden Hornet (Austin, TX), el disco Eterna (homenaje al Día de Muertos) y el proyecto EMPO Sinfónico.

Junto al escritor Jorge F. Hernández y el ilustrador Rep, participó en el libro Cuarentínimos para la Cuentena, publicado por Minerva Editorial y editado por Alberto García Grillasca y Santiago Hernández Zarauz durante la cuarentena de 2020, en el que produjo y fue coautor de la música original.

En el ámbito digital, ha sido pionero en la composición y producción musical para tokens no fungibles (NFT). Sus obras han sido exhibidas en los principales festivales de Bitcoin del mundo y subastadas en plataformas internacionales como SuperRare, posicionando su trabajo en la intersección entre arte sonoro, criptoarte y tecnología blockchain.

Desde 2023 es el compositor de la música del cineminuto oficial del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM).

En septiembre de 2024 fue invitado a colaborar con la icónica banda mexicana Plastilina Mosh, dirigiendo e interpretando durante su histórico concierto en el Teatro Metropólitan de la Ciudad de México.

En 2025 estrenó la obra Luz y Hermandad, comisionada por el trío de Emmet Cohen junto con la Orquesta de Cámara de La Habana, que tuvo su estreno el 9 de marzo en el Teatro Nacional de Cuba. Ese mismo año compuso música para los reconocidos intérpretes, compositores y curadores de Nueva York y Chicago Gene Pritsker y Seth Boustead.

Actualmente reside en la Ciudad de México, produce música electroacústica y presenta un ciclo de diez piezas para piano solo titulado Intervallic Banquets. También compone, toca teclados y dirige la banda de funk Turbochocolate.

Rodrigo Grillo Grillasca is a composer, keyboardist, arranger, and producer from Mexico City. His musical work spans composition for film, theater, jazz ensembles, and contemporary music, as well as the exploration of new short formats for visual arts and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on blockchains.

After earning a degree in Psychology from Universidad de las Américas (Mexico City, 2008), he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the City College of New York (2013). There, he studied composition with David Del Tredici; harmony and piano with Kevin Hays; and choral conducting and arranging with Ira Spaulding.

In theater, he has collaborated with the Macramé Collective, led by Mariana Gándara, creating electroacoustic music for stage productions. In film, he has worked with directors such as Jonás Cuarón, Rodrigo Imaz, and Juan Romo. In 2014, he participated in the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) with the short film Domingo, directed by Diego Cataño Elizondo, written by Mateo García Elizondo, and produced by Jonás Cuarón.

While in New York, he collaborated with Gala Lutteroth by composing music for documentary short films and worked at Mayimba Music Inc., where he served as arranger and event coordinator.

In 2011, he founded La Supercosa, a contemporary chamber orchestra that explores the relationship between everyday objects and orchestral instruments. He performed as pianist and director of the ensemble in cultural venues such as the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), the Museo Universitario del Chopo, and the Faculty of Chemistry at UNAM, offering immersive and experimental stage experiences.

In 2018, he composed the official anthem for the Venados de Mazatlán baseball team, which was used for the inauguration of the Teodoro Mariscal stadium and during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

He was a founding member of Vórtice Ensamble, directed by Felipe Pérez Santiago, with whom he performed various programs at national forums and festivals, and recorded keyboards and pianos for projects such as MXTX by Golden Hornet (Austin, TX), the album Eterna (a tribute to the Day of the Dead), and the EMPO Sinfónico project.

Alongside writer Jorge F. Hernández and illustrator Rep, he participated in the book Cuarentínimos para la Cuentena, published by Minerva Editorial and edited by Alberto García Grillasca and Santiago Hernández Zarauz during the 2020 quarantine, in which he produced and co-wrote the original music.

In the digital realm, he has been a pioneer in composing and producing music for non-fungible tokens (NFTs). His works have been exhibited at leading Bitcoin festivals worldwide and auctioned on international platforms such as SuperRare, positioning his work at the intersection of sound art, crypto art, and blockchain technology.

Since 2023, he has been the composer of the official one-minute film music for the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

In September 2024, he was invited to collaborate with the iconic Mexican band Plastilina Mosh, conducting and performing during their historic concert at the Teatro Metropólitan in Mexico City.

In 2025, he premiered the work Luz y Hermandad, commissioned by the Emmet Cohen Trio along with the Havana Chamber Orchestra, which debuted on March 9 at the National Theatre of Cuba. That same year, he composed music for renowned New York and Chicago-based performers, composers, and curators Gene Pritsker and Seth Boustead. 

He currently resides in Mexico City, produces electroacoustic music, and presents a cycle of ten solo piano pieces titled Intervallic Banquets. He also composes, plays keyboards, and directs the funk band Turbochocolate.
